Tell us how it all started – how does a young Tunisian boy become the up-and-coming fashion designer in Kuwait?

As a child I was attracted to images and colors, my father was an architectural gardener and I often used to travel with him so it was natural for me to fall in love with a world full of flowers. I found the colors and shapes so beautiful, painting and design naturally became part of my childhood.

UZURI: How did you first get interested in becoming a fashion designer?
When I was a child I remember going to visit the tailor maid with my mother, I would collect pieces of fabric that had fallen on the floor and I would make clothes for my cousin’s
Barbie dolls with them. Also, my mother was a fashion-lover and she passed this down onto me. Fashion has been a passion shared by the both us.

Avon announced at its annual leadership conference last week that singer-songwriter Keri Hilson will be the next face of the company’s Imari, Imari Seduction and Color brands.
Hilson, who topped Hip-Hop and R&B charts in the United States last year with her album In a Perfect World…, will appear on the pages of Avon’s Imari brochure starting August 2010 and in the Color brochure throughout the remainder of the year. Her first appearance on behalf of the company will be in late April.

The tent of Fashion Week El Paseo in Palm Desert, California, became the focal point for an explosion of multi-cultural expression as four award-winning designers from Islands of the World Fashion Week presented their creations to a standing room only audience.

The 2nd edition of Tunisian Fashion Week was held on 14th-8th of April 2010.
This event was organized by Yalil Production under the patronage of the Tunisian Ministry of Tourism, and supported by the Ministry of Industry. It was held at the Municipal Theater.

 

Sira Vision is the largest West African and Senegalese fashion festival gathering hundreds of fashion designers and artist for a three day runway show and presentation. This event was created in 2003 by Senegalese Fashion Designer Colle Sow Ardo.

Last week Thursday marked 2010 Simon Fashion Mall show week in Polar Ice Galleria Houston, TX.  It was the eye-popping look into spring madness! Sponsored by Cadillac, top brands like Neiman Marcus, Versace, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and M. Missoni to name a few took center stage to Dj Rekka’s old school catwalk mixes.

FULANI’S new collection ‘I812’ (I ate one too) is all about the woman who ‘will get herself a man’, in other words, she ‘ate one too!’ Inspired by love and happiness, this collection is built upon the typical bridal shower but with an interesting twist... there are always two colors for two particular moods... loud and... muted. This summer collection typifies pure Femininity, accented by silk fabrics.

Ngone works and lives in Paris. An artist of cultural diversity, her hybrid accessories reflect the links she creates between cultures. Open to the world around her, she draws her inspiration from the merging of cosmopolitan cultures. Her collections are full of influences of various cultures;

 

Lauren Pierce Atelier was born as a natural progression of the Lauren Pierce brand. Core goals have always included social consciousness and the humanizing of the fashion experience. The designs are a conscious expression of respect for the earth and our collective humanity.
