Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Daniel Pister
It is always very difficult to talk about yourself. I am an avid of art photography since my teens. Yet it was in 2000 when I finally started in this business at a professional level after an impromptu meeting with a French singer that leaded to a spontaneous meeting. When her agent (well known in France, the brother of the singer Dalida) saw the photos, he decided to give me a chance and made me sign a contract with Warner Music. Just after, everything went fast, my work is much appreciated and different fashion brands delegate me their photographic communication. From that day, my photos travel worldwide in magazines such as Vogue, GQ, AMICA, WAD, IT.....

UZURI
What is your current state of mind interview?

Daniel Pister
I am always looking for new photographic ideas. I am always afraid of not having the right idea at the right time.

UZURI
I love to interview photographers because their work inspires me. What gives you ideas and inspires you to create such amazing photos?

Daniel Pister
I am inspired by each moment of my life, every day. I am very attentive to my feeling; ideas come to me always while meeting new people. I love people and I am inspired. I have always the result of the photo in my mind even before the shooting. The hardest part is always to "sell" the idea to my client, to materialize what I have in mind and to share it with the person I have in front of me.

UZURI
How would you describe your style?

Daniel Pister
It is very difficult to describe your own style; it is an inspiration of the moment more than a style. I like the staging, the large scenes. I always seek perfection, trying to get better after each shooting. I try to be different every time but I am told that my style is easily recognized. It's more for my readers to define my style …

UZURI
What do you love the most about your job?

Daniel Pister
The contact with the team: models, stylists, hairdressers, makeup artists. I love to share and for me, the team spirit is crucial and rewarding. I love this mix of skills and artistic ideas.

UZURI
How did you develop your skills as a photographer?

Daniel Pister
Photography is an art; a photo can be very beautiful for some and mediocre for others. Art is subjective even though I have always been lucky that my photos are appreciated and understood.

UZURI
I couldn't help noticing the majority of black and white photos. Do you prefer that technique?

Daniel Pister
Personally I have no preferences. I love all the techniques. I think some pictures are as beautiful in color as in black and white and others will be more beautiful in color or black and white, I don’t have any preference. With the current trend of "de saturated" the choice is even more difficult.

UZURI
How do you compare shooting in the studio to on location – any preference?

Daniel Pister
I worked many years in the studio. Today I am detached. To recreate a real studio setting you need a huge budget and the result is often disappointing. A place has a soul that the studio does not know how to recreate. It has a natural light that the photographer will use and it does not exist in the studio. The models also do not pose the same way in the studio. The atmosphere and art work is different in a real place.

UZURI
When choosing a model, what is the most important factor for you?
Is it easier for you to work with male or female models?

Daniel Pister
I much prefer a moderately nice girl emerging a charisma in the photo to a very pretty girl who does not know how to use her glances and her natural curves. I always work with models with whom the feeling passes very well. There is also the result of the photo.
I am a passionate of femininity. I am told that my photos of men are very nice but I really prefer to work with girls. The look of a woman inspires me greatly.

UZURI
How important do you think a photographer is in the career of a model?

Daniel Pister
I think that model should work with several photographers. In this case the model will have various photos to create a diversified portfolio in order appeal to agencies.

UZURI
I love your group shoots, is it difficult to work with many models at the same time

Daniel Pister
It depends on the models. One should know the strengths and weaknesses of each of them to be able to achieve a perfect result; Myself, I get used to go through this incredible kind of difficulties.

UZURI
How do you choose your team?

Daniel Pister
Feeling always the feeling. If I work once with a person, I always know if I will work with them again or not. The team is very important to me.

UZURI
How important is Photo shop in your final images?

Daniel Pister
All fashion photos are retouched. The editing mode is an art; to retouch is not to truncate the reality but the culmination of artistic perfection. Of course retouch should not be the basic element of a successful photo... Photo shop is a complementary tool but it should certainly not replace the camera.

UZURI
What has been your most memorable assignment and why?

Daniel Pister
My first photo for a fashion clothing brand will remain memorable for me. It appeared directly in Vogue at a global level, followed by an advertising campaign in Los Angeles. A dream.....

UZURI
Where would be your dream destination assignment?

Daniel Pister
It's hard to say. I have lived fabulous things in this business and I'm not greedy. My only dream is that my photos will still vibrate.

UZURI
We see that you have worked for numerous fashion magazines and ad campaigns including vogue, what do appreciate in fashion style today

Daniel Pister
Fashion is a never-ending cycle. I like this refined trend, the natural and the "class attitude," I love.

UZURI
Who would be your dream client?

Daniel Pister
I don’t have a specific example; but a great brand that loves my work still satisfies me.

UZURI
How important is a web site for your business?

Daniel Pister
I do not know. I am very careful about the quality of my site nevertheless the contacts are not made via Internet. My site serves me as a photo book after the first contact.

UZURI
What would you like to be doing in 5 years from now?

Daniel Pister

I don’t know, I don’t ask myself this question. I love the unexpected and exploring new artistic horizons.

UZURI
Thank you it has been a pleasure to spend time with such a wonderful talented artist
