Wow PARIS! There is so much I look forward to sharing with you about this magical place. The fashion, the Beauty, the history, the Music... The love the French have for ALL music- Soul, Funk, Jazz, Fusion, Afro-beat, Pop, you name it.
Sounds that have carried me throughout my life and have become my personal “Sound track” - I am sure that this is the same for most of you. - The desire for it. The excitement of it and the Style that carries it... Brings me to share.
Her name is Narjess.... Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound machines' “The rhythm is gonna get you”... Is a perfect anthem to describe the Music, Power, and allure of Ms. NArjess SAAD! She is amazing, captivating, and musically gifted.
Narjess is a percussionist. Mastering the djembe, dum-dum, and Cajon Reminiscent of a young Shelia E. This Parisian born (with Tunisian and Algerian Heritage) artist has been surrounded by music her whole life. – Taught to play the Arabian derbouka by her maternal Grandmother at the age of 9 she has been keeping the beat ever since.
It was the 1998 World Cup, being hosted in Paris that Narjess got to showcase her talent on the main stage. Lead by the legendary Percussionist Guem of Niger. Ms. SAAD, and a band of other young highly skilled local musicians, went on to perform in the opening ceremony of this major sporting event. After an overwhelming response Guem made the decision to assemble a team of his most promising musicians and set out for Mali, W. Africa.
There Narjess and her fellow musicians were incorporated amongst the best! She exchanged styles and techniques with the Country's most noted Percussionist and played two shows at Salif Keita's club and performance hall.

When asked how this experience in Mali effect her musically.
She replied- It gave me freedom and strength to feel more and understand the music and completely express myself. Freedom and control is exactly
what you experience while watching a performance of Narjess. She is 'There', present, and in the moment. Vibing with her audience and at the same time she is in a very distant land; a coherent trance right in front of you. Relaying sounds and rhythms of past yet creating something new for the music lovers of today!Performing in New York this month! (March, 2010) as part of the -Black Rock Coalition - Believe me you will not want to miss the opportunity to see her live. Narjess is among the best at what she does and I have yet to experience an artist quite like her**
