On the runway, in magazines mode Afrique includes some of the the most recognizable trends for international world fashion for the time. African concepts of beauty, seen in a number runway models, highlights a bold statement about beauty image for those who appreciate it.
Tall dark featured women like Iman of Somalia and Alek of Sudan found fame on American catwalks taking American magazine covers by storm because they were so rare and different. “African looking” women now have become icons worldwide in the fashion industry with a growing list of more ethnic faces rapidly increasing. Proudness in cheekbones, figure, and deeper toned skin is more prevalent than ever before. Designers are continuously becoming more experimental with the use of texture and definition of color enhancing the diversity in women of this continent. We are constantly seeing the older traditional dress merge with European and more modern concepts, which also compliments our evolving shades of African beauty. It is apparent that the fashion industry and media is now appreciating African concepts of beauty.
